Perfect Lee MVP As Sophomores Rout Rookies

Lee, the Knicks’ second-year forward, scored 30 points and made all 14 of his shots as the sophomores crushed the rookies, 155-114, in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge last night. Lee hung around the basket, ran the floor and never had to make a shot outside of two feet. Nine of his field goals were dunks, the other five lay-ups. Lee, who was named the game’s MVP, also hit both of his free throws and had 11 rebounds.

Lee, who wasn’t invited to play in the game as a rookie, was the 30th pick of the 2005 draft. The only second-year player in last night’s game to be drafted lower was Golden State’s Monta Ellis, selected 40th. Lee has emerged as one of the NBA’s most improved players this season. He is averaging 11.2 points and 10.6 rebounds despite being a starter just 12 times. Last night, sophomores coach Marc Iavaroni, a Phoenix Suns assistant, had Lee in the starting lineup.
