DallasNews: The mood was bright all day for the Mavericks after Jason Terry agreed to a deal on the first day of negotiations in the NBA free-agent season. Terry's deal is believed to start at about $7 million for the coming season, with a total worth of slightly more than $50 million. Terry earned $6.66 million last season.
"Jet wanted to stay, and we wanted him to stay," owner Mark Cuban said. "He was vital to our Finals run and, like all of us, wants to finish what we started."
Free-agent contracts can be signed starting July 12. Terry was the Mavericks' second-leading scorer last season at 17.1 points per game.
"I'm very excited about staying put in Dallas," Terry said. "Obviously, we all were disappointed that we didn't win the championship, but now that we are keeping our team intact and adding a couple of pieces, there is no question that we will be back competing for the championship next season."
Mavs have the ability to go far into the playoffs again. Keeping Terry was key since he played big in some of the games.
