Nuggets commit to Nene

Denverpost:First the bad news for Nene - Brazil lost in the World Cup on Saturday.

But as painful as that might be for any Brazilian, this weekend ended up far more good than bad for the Nuggets restricted free agent. He got married Saturday and on Sunday agreed to a contract that will net him $60 million over six years to stay with the team that drafted him.

Nuggets director of player personnel Mark Warkentien confirmed that a deal has been reached.

"He has great size, great courage, great fundamentals and an upside that any NBA team would want on their roster," Denver coach George Karl said.

Nene's agent, Dan Fegan, praised Denver owner Stan Kroenke, whose decisiveness helped short-circuit a bidding war for the 23-year-old forward.

"What I've learned through this process is I'm convinced Mr. Kroenke is going to do whatever it takes to bring a championship to Denver," Fegan said. "Make no mistake about it."

Reached in Brazil, Nene's personal assistant, Alex Santos, said the forward was thrilled with his deal and thankful for Kroenke's support.

"When he started the whole free- agency stuff, everyone knew and it was very clear Denver was his first option," Santos said.

The Nuggets had developed a reputation in past years for moving glacially on major decisions, but they struck quickly on free agency's first weekend. Between this contract and the extension small forward Carmelo Anthony agreed to Saturday, Kroenke committed over 24 hours to spend approximately $140 million.
