Nichols picked up:
The Cavs picked up Demetris Nichols off waivers Monday. Nichols, put on waivers by the New York Knicks, was the player of the year in the Big East for Syracuse. He led the Big East in scoring at just under 19 points per game.
"Demetris is a player we liked from the draft," Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry said. "We look forward to being able to take a closer look at him."
Nichols, a 6-8 forward, has 3-point range and he's not much of a banger inside. Portland drafted Nichols in the second round with the 53rd overall pick and traded his rights to the Knicks for a 2008 second-round pick. Nichols averaged 7.8 minutes in five preseason games.
We knew that it would only be a matter of time before he was picked up.
