Anthony, Nuggets look to rebound from tough loss

Recap: Denver (35-29) at New York (17-44) 7:30 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets hope to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss when they visit the lowly New York Knicks on Monday.

Anthony was on pace for a career night Sunday, but the Nuggets sputtered down the stretch en route to a 106-101 loss to the Boston Celtics.

The defeat snapped a four-game winning streak for Denver, which is in the midst of a seven-game road trip.

Anthony scored 26 of his 36 points in the first half while Andre Miller chipped in 19 for the Nuggets, who managed just 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Denver hopes to sweep the season series from a New York squad which has dropped 23 of its last 27.

The Knicks had their two-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 116-109 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats.

Jalen Rose scored 23 points to pace New York, which dropped a 95-86 decision in Denver on November 18, the first time these two teams met this season.

FINAL SCORE

Knicks - 96
Nuggets - 108

Anthony, Nuggets Cruise Past Knicks

Recap:NEW YORK, March 13 (Ticker) -- Carmelo Anthony had another big game to help the Denver Nuggets remain strong on the road.

Anthony, born in New York, scored 35 points as the Nuggets improved to 3-1 on their season-high seven-game road trip with a 108-96 triumph over the New York Knicks.

Denver wasted a 36-point effort by Anthony on Sunday in a 106-101 defeat at Boston, but unlike that game, Anthony saved his scoring barrage until late in the contest.

"We won our first two," Anthony said. "Last night in Boston we let one slip out of our hands. Tonight, we was focused mentally more than anything and prepared to come out here and win this game."

"We did need that (a win) especially after playing a solid game and losing down the stretch to Boston," Denver point guard Andre Miller said. "It was definitely needed."

Anthony scored 26 points in the first half against the Celtics to help the Nuggets build a 12-point lead. He had 15 on Monday before coming alive after the break.

"Tonight's game was Melo's game," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "Melo was a pretty impressive tonight."

The league's seventh leading scorer, Anthony scored 12 in the third quarter as Denver outscored New York, 25-15, to take an 86-71 lead.

In 36 minutes, Anthony shot 13-of-21 from the floor and made 9-of-12 free throws. During Denver's decisive 19-7 charge in the third, he knocked down four mid-range jumpers.

"It's fun," said Anthony, who had shot 34 percent (16-of-47) in his first two visits to New York. "I grew up out here in New York. So, this is my home. I come in front of my family and friends out here. It's not to impress my them, it's just to win a basketball game."

Former Knick Marcus Camby collected 10 points and 18 rebounds for the Nuggets, who led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter. It was Camby's 26th double-double of the season and ninth since returning from a right finger injury on Jan. 27.

Camby also collected five blocked shots for the 14th time this season. Two of his blocks came early in the third, setting the tone for Denver to pull away.

"In the third quarter defensively, for the first eight, nine minutes we made it really hard for them," Karl said. "I think that's what got us the lead."

"It's cool," Camby said of the double-double. "But I like the win even better. I had a double-double the first time against these guys and we got the win. We're on a long road trip and it was a must win for us tonight."

Stephon Marbury, who said before the game that he was going to me more aggressive on the offensive end and play like "Starbury", collected 25 points and seven assists for New York, which dropped its fourth straight home contest.

"Whenever you have a team that's coming off a back-to-back, you really want to push the ball to wear them down," Marbury said. "Even though they're an up-and-down team, you still try to do it."

The Knicks lost for the 24th time in their last 28 games. They've allowed at least 100 points in 17 of those games and 15 have of those defeats have been by double digits.

"Everyone on your team has to have the mindset that they want to guard," New York coach Larry Brown said. "You're never going to be successful unless everyone has that mindset. Everybody has to have that mindset that you have to play hard and execute.

"We have to figure out the best chance we have of winning the game. That's been the most difficult thing since I've got here. It can't be about the individual, it has to be about the team."

Rookie Channing Frye added 16 points for the Knicks, who started Jerome James at center in place of Eddy Curry (stomach virus). James responded with a season-high 13 points.

Key Match-up
Jalen vs Carmelo. Jalen willl have to try to play defense. We all know Carmelo will get his points But all Jalen can do is try. Same with Jalen. Let's hope he scores and helps try to get a win. But I think that Carmelo will outscore Jalen 34-18.
My Prediction
I think this is going to be a hard battle. We are gonna be pretty dissappointed losing the the Bobcats. But I don't think were going to be able to bounce up again. That's right I'm predicting a loss :man5: . After losing to the Bobcats That just shows how are season has beeen so far. Hopefully we can come back next year. Or make a run this year, to boost our confidence for next year. But for right now this game. I think Were going to lose. If we win, it will be a major upset. But all we can do right now is pray that we win. :jam2:

We play A LOT better if we move at a faster pace and dont stand around to set up a play.
