Spurs look to add to Knicks' misery

Preview: New York (15-40) at San Antonio (43-12) 8:30 pm EST

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks will be hard-pressed to end their slide Monday when they visit the San Antonio Spurs.

The Knicks have lost three straight games and 19 of their last 21. They are tied with Charlotte for the fewest wins in the NBA despite having a payroll that is roughly $90 million higher than the second-year team.

New York has been handled easily in each of its last three games, trailing by at least 21 points in each. The Knicks have not held a lead since the 6 1/2-minute mark of Wednesday's home loss to Miami.

On Saturday, New York was completely decimated at Washington, 110-89. Stephon Marbury scored 15 points and Steve Francis added just nine for the Knicks, who trailed, 71-45, at halftime.

The Spurs have won three straight games and 12 of their last 14. Nazr Mohammed collected 15 points and 14 rebounds as San Antonio posted a 92-75 win here over Golden State on Saturday.

All-Star Tim Duncan was limited to just nine points on 4-of-17 shooting, but he did haul in 16 rebounds.

San Antonio has won its last two home games against New York along with a 109-96 triumph at Madison Square Garden on December 21.

Spurs Top Knicks for 13th Win in 15 Games

Recap:SAN ANTONIO, Feb. 27 (Ticker) -- Deadly accurate shooting by Michael Finley and Tony Parker made things easy for the San Antonio Spurs.

Finley made all eight shots and scored 22 points off the bench and Parker added 20 with 12 assists to lead the Spurs to a 121-93 triumph over the reeling New York Knicks.

Shooting 62.5 percent (45-of-72) from the floor, San Antonio (44-12) won for the 13th time in 15 games and remained one game behind Dallas for the top spot in the Southwest Division and Western Conference. The Spurs host the Mavericks on Thursday.

"It was a good all-around job on both ends of the court," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "We shared the basketball really well, fueled by Tony Parker's excellent point guard play. It was a good victory. Now we prepare for the next one."

Coming off Saturday's scoreless 20-minute outing against Golden State, Finley hit five 3-pointers. Three came in the third quarter, when San Antonio outscored New York, 39-18, and opened a 100-70 lead.

"I was just making the most of those opportunities out there," Finley said. "The penetration and the attention of these guys on the ballcourt just makes my job a lot easier. I was ready to step into my shots and knock them down confidently."

Third in the league in shooting percentage, Parker made 7-of-9 shots and assisted on four of Finley's 3-pointers before sitting out the final period.

"It was great to find my teammates tonight," Parker said. "Everybody was making shots and Finley was hot so I tried to find him when I could. We were all feeling good tonight."

Reserve Nick Van Exel made 6-of-8 shots and scored 14 points and Tim Duncan added 12 as San Antonio raised its home record to 24-3.

"It was a good night all around," Duncan said. "We moved the ball well. We got a lot of guys a lot of minutes."

The lopsided outcome gave the Spurs an opportunity to rest some of their regulars in advance of their third meeting of the season with Dallas on Thursday. The teams have split the first two meetings.

"We are not worried about the hype," Duncan said. "(The Mavericks) are a good team and we know that. We are going to be playing them on our home court and we know that. We are going to play hard and whatever happens, happens."

"We want to build on something that will help us in the long run and we want to defensively get more stops and stop fouling," Finley said. "We did that and offensively we were quick and that just opened up the game for us."

The struggles continue for the Knicks (15-41), who have not held a lead in their last 15 quarters. New York has lost 11 straight road games and 20 of 22 overall.

"Even though they shot over 60 percent in the first half, we still cut the lead to seven," Knicks coach Larry Brown said. "But once we cut the lead to seven, it's like I never saw a pass after that. They always make the extra pass, sometimes two or three of them. We have a lot of young guys who maybe don't fully understand the importance of the little things."

Quentin Richardson scored 14 points, Eddy Curry had 13 and Steve Francis 12 for the Knicks, who committed 19 turnovers.

"It's tough because you have a vision of what you can do to help a team but then it kind of snowballs on top of you and you end up losing night in and night out," Francis said.

Knicks are BLOWN OUT EVERY NIGHT. WTF they HAVE talent but the mentality is just that nobody cares. Starbury is a loser and the rest are losers too. :man2:

we should play like

C Frye
PF Lee
SF J Rose
SG Q-Rich/Crawford
PG Francis

and play FAST bball. Curry is unable to use his power in the key and Marbury is simply BS. Run n gun. Offense is okay, but we suck on our end of the court....
