Pistons look to improve to 3-0 this season vs. Brown, Knicks

Preview: Detroit (51-12) at New York (18-45) 7:30 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons look to prove once again to former coach Larry Brown the difference between his old team and his new team.

The Pistons will try to earn their seventh straight win overall against the Knicks and third consecutive triumph at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

Brown, who guided Detroit to the NBA Finals in the past two seasons and the 2003-04 NBA Championship, is experiencing the other end of the spectrum as his Knicks' squad is in contention for the worst record in the league.

The consistently shuffled New York roster has failed tremendously at making this matchup a rivalry between their coach and his former club. The Pistons have dominated the last two meetings by posting a 17-point margin of victory.

Detroit started its three-game road trip with a 105-98 win against Toronto on Wednesday. Chauncey Billups collected 26 points and 10 assists and Tayshaun Prince added 21 for the Pistons, who drained 10-of-14 shots from the arc. Richard Hamilton registered 17 points and six assists.

The Knicks are coming off a 121-117 double-overtime triumph over Atlanta on Wednesday in which the bench produced 77 points. Jamal Crawford led the reserves with 21 points and Nate Robinson and Qyntel Woods added 18 each.

In the most recent contest on January 19, a 105-79 rout by the Pistons, Hamilton scored 26 points and Rasheed Wallace added 23.

FINAL SCORE

Knicks - 105
Pistons - 103

Crawford Carries Knicks Over Pistons

Recap:NEW YORK, March 17 (Ticker) -- Larry Brown might be rethinking his move from the "Motor City" to the "Big Apple." He appeared to have luck on his side Friday.

Wearing green uniforms to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, the New York Knicks stunned the Detroit Pistons, 105-103, as Jamal Crawford scored 15 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds left.

"I like them (the green jerseys)," Crawford said. "I want to keep wearing them. I understand this is the only game we're going to wear them. But I'll take mine home and frame it."

Crawford has seen his ups and downs this season but was brilliant when the Knicks needed him the most. The six-year veteran came off the bench to make 7-of-10 shots in helping the Knicks shoot a season-best 57 percent (41-of-72) overall.

The league-leading Pistons were limited at the start of the fourth quarter as they played without two of their All-Stars. Forward Rasheed Wallace was ejected for arguing at the 11:03 mark of the third period and guard Richard Hamilton followed him seven minutes later after he threw the ball into the stands.

"I just wish that we had something where like after the game I got to talk about what happened down the stretch, why I did this or that," said Detroit guard Chauncey Billups, who scored 24 points. "I wish we had something where the refs had to do it and explain what happened and why they did this and that. It just ain't fair, man."

"I think Rip (Hamilton) was frustrated," Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "He threw the ball at the other end of the backboard in frustration. I don't know if he should have been thrown out of the game. At that point, it was a pretty heated situation for both teams."

Detroit's Maurice Evans and Tayshaun Prince had back-to-back three-point plays to tie the game at 92-92 with 3:47 remaining. Crawford followed by scoring six straight points for the Knicks to provide a 98-95 edge two minutes later.

Billups nailed a pull-up jumper to give the Pistons a 101-99 edge with 41 seconds left. Crawford responded by converting a three-point play and Eddy Curry split two free throws as New York rebuilt a two-point lead.

Prince made two foul shots to tie it with 13 seconds remaining, setting the stage for Crawford's go-ahead shot over Billups.

"I was thinking about the Toronto game," Crawford said. "It was the same kind of shot I got that game and it went for me. I kind of got Chauncey with the crossover early, so I wanted to keep going straight without hesitating."

Detroit had a chance to tie, but former Knick Antonio McDyess, who scored 18 points, missed a pair from the line after being fouled by Malik Rose with 0.7 seconds left.

"It matters a lot. We got 18 games left and I didn't see any (selfishness) and I saw guys trying to win, trying to share the ball," Brown said. "I saw them playing hard and that's all we can do from now on. We got to find out who in that locker room is committed to doing that every night. That's the thing that's so important."

"A win against those guys, I'll take it," said Rose, who had 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. "I don't care if they didn't have their starting five, I'll take it. I won't get too excited because they didn't have their best two players."

Curry had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Steve Francis scored 15 points for the Knicks, who overcame 22 turnovers.

"A lot of guys contributed," said Knicks swingman Jalen Rose, who scored 12 points. "Jamal made a huge shot at the end of the game. We didn't get down. A lot of times when things don't go your way and you only have 19 wins or so on the season, you tend to get discouraged."

Prince scored 15 points and Ben Wallace had 10 and seven rebounds for Detroit, which shot 47 percent (38-of-80) and lost to New York for the first in seven meetings.

The Pistons appeared to have the game under control in the second quarter as they took a 51-35 lead with 5 1/2 minutes left before settling for seven-point bulge at the break.

"It was just kind of downhill," Billups said. "They got a little confidence going and they got back into the game and they came out victorious."

"It is what it is," said Ben Wallace, who added two blocks. "We had control of the game and then it went out of hand. We didn't take care of business when we supposed to and that's what it came to."

I dont feel to good either, but after the last game maybe Brown learned something about our bench/rookies. We'll see. If we can manage to lose by only 15 or less I will be fairly pleased.

Force's Take
Image @ Image

Knicks Line-up
Image Image Image Image Image
C.Eddy Curry
PF.Malik Rose
SF.Jalen Rose
SG.Quentin Richardson
PG.Stephon Marbury
Pistons Line-up
Image Image Image Image Image
C.Ben Wallace
PF.Rasheed Wallace
SF.Tayshaun Prince
SG.Richard Hamilton
PF.Chauncey Billiups

Key Match-up
Image Vs Image
Eddy Curry vs Ben Wallace
This is going to be a fun match-up down low in the post. Eddy is going to have a hard time trying to score on Big Ben. But if Curry doesn't do the same at the other end, Big Ben will end up with 20+ points which 99 percent of the time results in a Pistons victory. We all know this game Curry nor Jerome will get there points, but there number 1 focus should be on defense and defense only. Number 2 is trying to do the dirty work. Like force turnovers and rebound. If they don't do that again the Pistons will win

Part 2
Image Vs Image
Stehpon Marbury vs Chauncey Billiups
For the past 2 games Stephon has had to guard 2 very good point guards. Will it's going to keep on going. This time he will have to face NBA Finals MVP from 2 years ago. Chauncey Bu-Bu-Bu-Builliups!! These 2 are going to run the floor. This should be a fun match-up. I don't know what else to say except this will be a battle of 2 of the best Point Guards in the league!

Curry-8 Points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists/ Ben Wallace- 14 Points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists
Marbury-24 Points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds/ Billiups- 26 Points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds

Prediction
Everybody knows that we are the under-dogs in this game. If they don't they must be a little brain damage. For us to win these game, our team will have to have balance scoring. If they don't it's a guarenteed lose Peroid. In the first half the game is probably going to be close and entertaining. But when the 2nd half starts the Pistons are going to get aggressive. But again if our team starts the 3rd with rhyme the Knicks will hang in the game with the Pistons. Plus the Pistons have been struggling lately. Losing to Washington, Lakers, Denver. And they have lost to bad teams this year. Hawks, Utach... But have been really good against good teams. Just ask the Spurs about that. I all of our starting line-up is in double figures, we will probably win. But it probably won't happen.

Conclusion
I'm going to say that 95 percent of people are saying that the Pistons will win. But I'm not, that's right I'm going with teh Under-dogs. The one the only "The Knicks". We'll win 98-95. With Francis leading the charge at the end of the game. Marbury this game is going to show hwy his Starbury and Curry will show some sparks of why his nickname is "Baby Shaq" :jam2:

Is anybody reading Force's Take?? I don't know if it's good or not? I need some ideas of what to add to it. Like Battle of the Stars or something instead of Key-Matchup(s). Thanks in advance :jam2:

I've been reading your takes and they make the gameday a lot more spicy. Keep up the work, and I will let you know what else to add but for now your takes are doing fine :jam2:

As for the Knicks/Pistons my god have mercy on us. Pistons will not take us likely like the Hawks did. I swear if we don't even try to play defense we will get blown out by 40 or more. I'm interested to see the Marbury vs Billups matchup. Rip hamilton will bea tough cookie to die with him coming off screens. If Richard does play he will have to keep up with him. If not Francis will have to get down and dirty.

Curry vs Wallace will be tough and he will definetly need to stay out of foul trouble in order to make a difference. Our bench should dominate theirs, but then again it's the Knicks so I'm only praying we steal this one.

Knicks, Tourism Ireland Turn The Garden Green For St. Patrick’s Day

NBA: NEW YORK, March 1, 2006: -- The New York Knickerbockers today continued to expand their celebration of New York’s ethnic heritage, signing Tourism Ireland as the presenting sponsor for their special St. Patrick’s Day celebration game, on Friday March 17 when the team takes on the eastern conference defending champion Detroit Pistons at 7:30 p.m. The night will have a decidedly Irish flair, with in-game entertainment, giveaways, food specials, and…for the first time ever…the Knicks donning green uniforms.

“We are all aware of the diversity of culture in New York and the common ground that sports, especially events at Madison Square Garden, presents to so many groups,” said Hunter Lochmann, Knicks vice president of marketing. “This partnership with the Tourism Ireland will not only be an outstanding platform to showcase the beauty of Ireland and the upcoming Ryder Cup, but it will also provide a unique opportunity to put a very festive cap on one of the biggest ethnic celebrations in New York every year..St. Patrick’s Day.”

“Tourism Ireland is delighted to be associated with this very special celebration of St. Patrick's Day at Madison Square Garden. Through the various elements of the promotion we hope to interest New York Knicks fans in visiting Ireland - either for the Ryder Cup or indeed at another time,.” said Joe Byrne, vice president for United States and Canada, Tourism Ireland. “ We have the utmost confidence in the exceptional quality of Ireland's vacation destination product and expect that this year, more Americans than ever before will discover Ireland.”

Tourism Ireland will use the night as a platform in arena, on the Knicks television and radio broadcasts and on the Knicks website, nyknicks.com to promote Ireland as a vacation destination along with the upcoming Ryder Cup 2006, which will be held from September 22-24. Giveways and contests will all be themed to draw awareness and drive travel to Ireland for golf’s greatest team event.

It will be the fourth time this season that the team will have a strategic partner for an ethnic celebration. Allianz Life Insurance Company of New York was a sponsor of “Una Tarde De Ritmo” and “Asian Hertiage Day,” and Coca Cola will sponsor the upcoming “Una Noche de Ritmo” on March 21 vs. Toronto as well.

We going green tonight folks, lets hope we can get a lil luck from the irish and pull out a W.
