Quentin's brother is killed

Postby ClubKnicks on Wed Dec 07, 2005 2:32 pm

nydailynews:The Knicks' Quentin Richardson returned home to Chicago late Monday after his 31-year-old brother, Lee Richardson, was shot and killed in a noontime robbery.

According to Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond, Lee Richardson was walking with his father near their home on South Parnell Ave. when three men got out of a minivan and confronted them. Police said the suspects took Richardson's wallet before shooting him four times. Following a chase that ended with the minivan crashing into a nursing home, police caught and arrested the suspects.

Richardson was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 5:39 p.m. Monday. Sources said Richardson's father, LeeSr., was assaulted during the robbery and suffered a heart attack when he was told that his son had died.

The victims "were just walking down the street, minding their own business," Bond said. Another Richardson brother, Bernard, was shot and killed by robbers in 1992.

Quentin Richardson is not expected to rejoin the team until next week at the earliest. Over the next three days, the Knicks face the Clippers and Suns, his old clubs.

He was in Seattle with his teammates when he was notified that his brother had been shot. Isiah Thomas informed the players at practice on Monday that Richardson's brother had died. As the team huddled, Knicks center Jerome James led it in prayer.

Update

Funeral for Richardson’s brother; Arrests made

Newsday:The funeral for Quentin Richardson's brother, Lee, who was gunned down in an attempted robbery on Monday in Chicago, is scheduled for Saturday, but it's uncertain when the veteran swing man will rejoin the Knicks.

Knicks coach Larry Brown spoke to Richardson, who said that his father, Lee Sr., who also was attacked, was released from the hospital after an overnight stay. Brown said Richardson told him he worked out because he needed to get out of the house.

"I just told [Quentin] to straighten everything out and come back when he thinks he's ready," Brown said. "A lot of players e-mailed him, and I kind of filled the players in on what was going on.

"He said he watched [Tuesday's Seattle] game . . . He wants to be back quickly, but I don't know. I want him to get things taken care of there. When he feels ready, it'll be fine."

In Chicago, Elbert Dunnigan, 24, and Ishmael Clark, 29, were charged with one count each of first-degree murder and armed robbery, said Cook County state's attorney spokeswoman Marcy Jensen. Clark also was charged with three counts of attempted murder of a police officer. A third Chicago man, Gino Wilson, 18, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery. He also was being held on a Kankakee County murder warrant, police said. Wilson was wounded Monday and is in a suburban hospital, police said.
