Isiah Thomas believes that Jared Jeffries gives the Knicks balance and improves their chemistry, which is a nice way of saying don't expect 20 points and 10 rebounds out of his newest high-priced addition.
But there is something to be said for adding a versatile 6-11 forward who thinks defense first and doesn't need the ball to make an impact.
Jeffries signed a five-year, $30 million contract and has the inside track on the starting small forward job. Thomas envisions a starting front court that includes Jeffries, Channing Frye and Eddy Curry. That would be a big, young lineup but also one that is flawed. Curry is not a strong defensive player and needs to play alongside a big rebounder, which is something Frye is not. In four seasons with the Washington Wizards, Jeffries averaged only 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 points.

I like how Jefferies is defense first, becasue that is what we need.
