Eddy Curry was asked about the Knicks’ timeframe for making the playoffs, rather than merely hoping and planning for it.
“We’re at that point [now],” Curry said. “I feel like we’re real close, even though we haven’t played a regular season game yet. It’s just a feeling here that’s a lot different than it’s been in the past.”
To make that a reality, however, there needs to be more than simply a change in the feeling of the team. It would help, for instance, for Curry to improve his recent play in the preseason, including avoiding getting into quick foul trouble.
Against the 76ers on Wednesday, Curry picked up four fouls - three on the offensive end - in 17 minutes. He continues to be bothered by a sore right shoulder, wearing a brace again yesterday in practice.
“I was a little frustrated,” said Curry, who hopes to shed the brace soon. “I’ve just got to get this thing off my arm. Mentally it does [bother me], just feeling that resistance.”
Stephon Marbury isn’t concerned about his teammate’s recent struggles.
“He’ll be fine,” the point guard said. “He has to continue to find his feel. With Zach [Randolph] it’s different, a different perspective. But it will come.”
Still, Randolph can’t be blamed for Curry’s penchant for drawing the refs’ whistles.
“He got offensive fouls early [last year] and then started to understand that his strength would overpower guys,” Marbury said. “If he just takes position, the game will be so much easier for him.”
Isiah Thomas stared at the ground as he glumly answered questions.
