Link:To say that last season was a breakout year for 24-year-old Knicks center Eddy Curry would be something of an understatement.
Curry was outstanding in 2006-07 — a dominating force who gave the Knicks a chance to win every night. His 19.5 points-per-game average was more than three points better than his previous career high, set with Chicago in 2004-05. His 7.0 rebounds per game were also a career high, and he started all 81 games in which he appeared.
Then, of course, there were all those big nights. He scored more than 20 points in more than 40 games. He broke the 30-point mark six times and registered a career-best 43-point performance on April 7 at Milwaukee. He even forced overtime with a three-pointer in that game.
Coming off such a big season, the budding 6-foot-11 superstar from Illinois will be in the spotlight again for the Knicks in 2007-08. On Monday’s Media Day, Curry sat down with NYKnicks.com to talk about the upcoming season:
Question:What sort of things were you doing over the summer to prepare for the upcoming season?
I’ve just been playing a lot of basketball. I’ve been getting myself physically and mentally prepared for the grind. It’s going to be a tough one, but I’m ready for the hike and I’m excited for the season to get going.
Question: Did you stay in touch with your teammates before training camp opened?
Curry: Yeah, I talked to them all. I talked to at least one of them about once every other day or so. I’ve also seen them at least five times during the offseason.
Question: You were one of several Knicks players who got together for scrimmages over the summer. What were those scrimmages like?
Curry: They were a lot of fun actually. It’s a lot of fun to play with the guys and also go up against your teammates without the coaches on your back (laughs). But we take it seriously and it’s a lot of fun.
